Different approach in meniscal lesion management – save the meniscus

چکیده
The menisci are fibrocartilaginous structures that play a crucial role in knee stability and cartilage protection. Meniscal lesions represent the most common injuries major reason for patients undergoing surgery. Along with development of arthroscopic techniques, partial meniscectomy, as less invasive procedure removes only damaged part meniscus, became gold standard in treatment meniscal lesions. Although meniscectomy is minimally procedure, after which quickly return to their daily activities, it has devastating long-term impact on cartilage, resulting an accelerated osteoarthritis. Therefore, techniques repair increasingly promoted since 1990s.Although clinical studies show satisfactory results such procedures, unfortunately, still not performed frequently enough. aim this review emphasize importance meniscus preservation present, basis literature data, contemporary insights into etiology, classification, diagnosis,

Save the Meniscus, A Good Strategy to Preserve the Knee
With increasing life expectancy, the demand for preservation of native articular cartilage is increasing to delay joint arthroplasties. In the knee, there are many different strategies to preserve the articular cartilage including but not limited to corrective osteotomies, chondral injury restoration, intraarticular injection of cells or growth factors(PRP). However, One of the most important s...

Calcium deposition in osteoarthritic meniscus and meniscal cell culture
INTRODUCTION Calcium crystals exist in the knee joint fluid of up to 65% of osteoarthritis (OA) patients and the presence of these calcium crystals correlates with the radiographic evidence of hyaline cartilaginous degeneration. This study sought to examine calcium deposition in OA meniscus and to investigate OA meniscal cell-mediated calcium deposition. The hypothesis was that OA meniscal cell...
متن کاملMeniscal injury: II. Management.
Meniscal repair is a viable alternative to resection in many clinical situations. Repair techniques traditionally have utilized a variety of suture methods, including inside-out and outside-in techniques. Bioabsorbable implants permit all-inside arthroscopic repairs. The success of meniscal repair depends on appropriate meniscal bed preparation and surgical technique and is also influenced by b...

Background: Meniscus tear is a common finding in patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and may affectthe natural history of the injury and the outcomes of treatment. In the current study, the characteristics of meniscus tearsin patients who underwent arthroscopic ACL reconstruction were investigated. Methods: The hospital records of 1022 patients were reviewed. ...
